1. Remember to turn off everything you aren't using: lights, TVs, computers, etc.

2. Check the air conditioner filter monthly. Dirty filters block air flow, thus increasing energy use.

3. During hot months, keep window coverings closed on the south, east and west windows. In winter, let the sun in.

4. Activate "sleep" features on office equipment and computers, anything that powers down equipment when not in use.

5. Dress appropriately for the weather, so as to minimize using too much heating or cooling.

6. Take shorter showers, since showers with heating eat up about 15% of an average home energy bill.

7. Switch to cold water washing of laundry. Use detergent for cold water to get clothes just as clean.

8. Install low flow shower heads and sing aerators to reduce hot water use.

9. Insulate your hot water tank to keep the heat from escaping.

10. Replace your 5 most used light bulbs with energy saving bulbs.
